Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Paper. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Paper.
1. The service
Paper is a Mac app that turns dictated speech into clear writing and into actions in the apps you connect, including screen-aware features that can draft from what's on your screen at your request. We provide both the app and the backend services that power transcription, AI processing, and tool actions. We may add, change, or remove features over time.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use Paper. By using it, you confirm you meet this requirement.
3. Your account
You'll need an account to use Paper. You're responsible for keeping your credentials safe and for all activity on your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, tell us at davidoskar11@gmail.com.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Paper to transcribe or capture content you don't have the right to, for example recordings of others without their consent, or on-screen content you're not permitted to share
- Use it for content that's illegal, harmful, harassing, defamatory, or that violates anyone's rights
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the app, except where applicable law permits
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Paper
- Bypass the word-count limit, create multiple accounts to avoid paying, or otherwise abuse the free tier
- Use the service in a way that violates the usage policies of our underlying providers (Groq, Anthropic, OpenAI) or of any tool you connect
- Probe, scan, or test the security of our infrastructure without prior permission
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
5. Connected apps
Paper can connect to third-party tools (such as Slack, Linear, Notion, Granola, Gmail, and Google Calendar) so it can read from or act on them for you. By connecting a tool, you authorize Paper to access it on your behalf and to perform the actions you ask for. You are responsible for the actions you trigger through Paper, and your use of each tool remains subject to that tool's own terms. You can disconnect a tool at any time from Settings.
6. Subscriptions and billing
Paper has a Free tier and a Pro tier.
- Free: limited to a fixed number of dictated words per calendar month. The counter resets at the start of each month.
- Pro: paid subscription. Pricing is shown on the upgrade screen in the app and may change over time. Existing subscribers will be notified before any price increase takes effect on their plan.
Pro subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period until cancelled. Payment is processed by Stripe.
7. Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time from the Settings screen in the app. After cancellation, you keep Pro features through the end of the period you've already paid for.
We don't offer refunds for partial periods. If something goes wrong, a billing error, a service outage, or a bug that prevented you from using the app, email us and we'll consider a refund or credit on a case-by-case basis.
8. Your content
The voice, text, and content you create with Paper ("Your Content") belongs to you. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to process Your Content briefly while transcribing it, turning it into clear writing, and carrying out the actions you request, including sending it to the tools you've connected. That's the only way the app works. We don't claim any other rights to Your Content.
You're responsible for reviewing what Paper produces before relying on it or sending it anywhere, and for backing up anything important. Content Paper inserts into other apps or stores on your device is not something we can recover if your device is lost, damaged, or wiped.
9. Our content
The Paper app, branding, design, and underlying code belong to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to install and use the app on Macs you own or control while these terms are in effect.
10. AI output
Paper uses third-party AI models to transcribe your speech, rewrite it, and carry out actions. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or unexpected. You're responsible for reviewing what the app produces before relying on it or before it's sent to a connected tool. Don't use Paper as the sole basis for decisions where errors could cause harm.
11. Disclaimers
Paper is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy.
We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Paper and its operator won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption arising out of your use of the service.
Our total liability for any claim related to Paper is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) US$50.
13. Termination
You can stop using Paper at any time by deleting your account from Settings. We can suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms or if we wind down the service.
If we terminate the service, we'll give reasonable notice where practical.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms over time. If changes are material, we'll post the updated terms here and update the date above before they take effect. Continued use of Paper after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Victoria, Australia for any disputes that aren't covered by mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.
